Stanwell Arts Theatre (SPAT) provides an ‘acting and stage craft outlet’ for our many talented thespians resident in our ‘coastal villages’ area. SPAT is divided up into special interests groups.
During each year we stage two (or sometimes three) plays. In addition to these plays we produce an annual pantomime which is performed in December.
We passionately encourage the skills of local play writes, directors, production teams, stage-design and theatre staff to bring their talents to SPAT.
We all acknowledge that we live in a most beautiful area and the aim of SPAT is to add to our enjoyment of ‘our place’ by giving an outlet for the diverse talent of our community.
Performances and rehearsals are generally at the CWA Hall in the Drive at Stanwell Park.  Please note that we also take ‘our’ theatre to the city so look out for additional venues on our website.

SPAT Acting Workshops

During the year we provide both adult and young people’s acting workshops. Perhaps you want to hone your acting skills, or find that ‘inner thespian’ while having heaps of fun? Then this is for you.

The workshops will focus on a range of stage craft skills:

Release – Physical, Vocal and Emotional: How to relax on stage and access the full potential of your voice, your body and you feelings.

The Mechanics of Drama – Objectives, Obstacles, Stakes and Beats: How to make sense of a scene and get the most out of it.

Creating a World – What’s, Where’s, and Why’s: Techniques for a creating a rich imaginative world for you to inhabit on stage.

The tone of the workshops will be playful, encouraging and focused – we’ll create a space that allows people to make some real breakthroughs! Class sizes will be limited so don’t miss out.

SPAT Singers

SPAT Singers are a mixed voice singers who perform under the musical direction of Rod Lander. The group is essentially a group of like-minded people who simply enjoy the fun and social experience of raising their voices together in song.

If you resonate with any of the quotes below or they bring a smile to your face perhaps you should come along and join in as we make music. The group’s repertoire is varied and exciting. Suggestions for new songs are always welcome.

“If I cannot fly, let me sing.”  ― Stephen Sondheim

“Those who wish to sing always find a song.”  – Swedish Proverb

“He who sings scares away his woes.” ― Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

“I only sing in the shower. I would join a choir, but I don’t think my bathtub can hold that many people.
” Jarod Kintz
