SPAT Film Society

The SPAT Film Society was started in 1999, by a small group of enthusiast led by David Gosden. David purchased a screen, tracked down a couple of 16mm projectors and joined the National Library of Australia (Film and Video Lending Collection). Over the next 12 months, the film society screened a number of films, from silent to unusual.

After building a solid foundation for the society David moved to Bundeena in 2000, with the film committee continuing on. With lot of help it became a small but successful society and another good example of the broad nature of SPAT.

TThe film society screens films mostly on the last Saturday of the odd month, starting in March, then May, July, September and November. Screening dates do change so keep an eye on the Web site and the local signs. Our movies are screened in the CWA hall, the home of SPAT and start at 7.30pm. Over the last few years we have had the opportunity to use a video projector, increasing greatly the number of available films that we can screen. We now source films from the ABC, Roadshow and Tri-Star Columbia, in-addition to the National Library. Our main aim is to screen good entertaining family films, both old and new, having a G or PG rating, with the some M rated films. Some of the films we have shown recently include, Pirates of Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings, Happy Feet, The Queen and Bridge to Terabithia.

Being a film society we do not charge an admission, but do ask if people would join the society. Annual membership is very reasonable, being $30 for a family, $12 for an adult and $6 for a student. Our membership fees are low, to encourage people to join, but also because we are a non-profit society and only need to cover our costs.
