Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell is a heart-wrenching fictional exploration of the real-life death of Shakespeare’s 11-year-old son, Hamnet, in 1596. The plot details the tragic loss of the boy and how it creates a profound rift between his parents. The story ultimately reveals how Shakespeare processed his grief by later writing the masterpiece Hamlet.
